Introduction to management: for support staff
An essential course for any manager who is new to the role or who wants a refresher. Participants learn techniques for managing more effectively and they identify their own next steps. Individual telephone coaching is also available as a follow-up.

Support managers new to the role and those who would like a refresher
As a result of attending, you will be able to:
- understand how management works and how to apply it to your own team
- understand about motivation and how to raise people’s game at work
- get a practical understanding of management techniques to improve your communication and interaction with other team members
Content
This course will cover:
- introductions and setting of course objectives
- identifying how you like to manage: reviewing some personality types and their styles of managing
- an introduction to some management theory: how teams work best and what you can use in your own working area
- motivation: what makes people get out of bed and come to work, and some simple ways in which you can influence motivation
- what “engagement” means, and what it means for you, including:
- improving communication: some simple recommendations for work teams
- motivation and how to increase it
- guidelines on delegating work effectively
- how to give constructive feedback
- finally, identifying some “next steps” for individual attendees, which can be supported by telephone coaching if required

Emma Rush, who has not only trained on this area for the last twelve years, but also managed teams in her previous roles as head of training in the legal environment.
